What Is Indigo Powder?

Indigo powder is natural dye obtained from Indigo plant which originates from our own land India. It basically gives blue to dark blue color hence the name Indigo. When combined with Henna it gives dark shades of brown to black. It was originally used and still being used to dye your pair of denim but the use extends to dye your hair too now.

The powder is extracted form a plant and looks exactly Henna. It does not smell much unlike Henna.

Does Indigo Powder Works For all Hair Colors & Hair Types?

The color that the powder will give to your hair actually very much depends upon your hair color. If you have light colored hair, and you use Indigo powder alone, you can dye your hair in nice blue, green, even yellow shades. Blonde hair needs Henna Base to get a proper dark shade. While dark colored hair can achieve a deeper shade without using Henna. If you have grey hair, which means you need to use Henna & Indigo powder to dye your hair brown or black.

Henna as well as Indigo are both bit drying in nature, if you have dry hair types, mix some oil/eggs with the paste that we are going to talk about in next section.

My Experience With Indus Valley Organic Indigo Power

I tend to get cold very easily. the frequent colds are the reason behind grey hair on my head. Frustrating. I use Henna but of course it can’t turn them back to black. Indus Valley was very kind to send some products to me to test, among which one was Indigo powder. I had never heard about this product before. I googled about it and Oh my, the pages were full of articles on how to cover your grey hair with Indigo Powder as dye.

I tried mixing Indigo Powder with Henna when I first used the powder. I let the paste sit overnight. The next day I applied it. I was really excited to see the results. But it disappointed me. I did not get even 10% coverage. My hair were still grey. I felt like even Henna did not perform well.

I again googled the right way to use Indigo powder. This time I got it right. I applied Henna paste before hand. Washed Henna & then applied the Indigo powder paste. This was way better. I again applied Indigo powder to get more intensity. Now my grey hair are deep brown. I am finally convinced.

The process it time consuming & tiring but when you get desired results, it makes you smile. I would also like to add, my hair are dry and using Henna & Indigo powder alone really dry them out. So I try mixing oils to the pastes which can hinder some color deposition over hair.

Tips To Make Indigo Paste More Intense
